How the Calculator Works

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Use the slider to select the number of courses (up to 20)
  2. Type the class name (optional), numbers of credits and grade for each line
  3. Look at the bottom for your calculated GPA

This calculator can be used for high school or college. It is usually more defined as to how many credits a course has in college, but it can be more challenging in high school.

Many times a full year class is 1.0 credit in high school. But you should check your course credits specifically.

How GPA is Calculated

GPA (weighted) is calculated by the following equation:

(Sum of (grade point * Credit))/total credits = gpa

So to calculate gpa you need to take every class and multiply the grade point value by the number of credits for the class, add them up and then subtract that total by the total number of credits.

So for this calculator and a GPA on a 4.0 scale, you would use the table shown earlier.

Here’s an example:

Math, 3 credits, A
English, 3 credits, B+
Social Studies, 3 credits, B-
Science, 3 credits, A-
Health, 1 credit, A+

3*4.0+3*3.3+3*2.7+3*3.7+1*4.3 = 12+9.9+8.1+11.1+4.0=45.4 grade points

3+3+3+3+1=13 credits

45.4/13 = 3.49 GPA
